Are you accepting new patients?
Yes, we are accepting new patients. On your first visit, we typically will perform a comprehensive exam in order to identify any potential problems or concerns such as cavities, decay or infection. Please call our office today to set up an appointment that works best for your schedule. We look forward to meeting you!

How often should I go to the dentist?
The customary recommendation is that each individual should visit their dentist every six months, so that any changes or damages can be detected as early as possible. However, some individuals may need more frequent visits, depending on their oral health needs. Once we have given a patient his or her comprehensive oral examination, we can then provide better advice and recommendations for their re-care needs.

Do you accept dental health insurance?
Yes, we accept most dental insurances and file it as a courtesy for our patients. It is always a good idea for covered individuals to familiarize themselves with the specific details of their plan as benefits vary widely. If a credit or balance results after your insurance payment is received, we will contact you to discuss your credit or payment options. We also work with Care Credit and other private payment plan companies.

What financing options do you offer?
We understand that dental care is an important investment in your health and well being. That is why we offer a variety of payment options to help make our services accessible to everyone. We accept cash, checks, Visa and MasterCard. We also provide access to outside accounting services that offer additional options, including in some cases, interest-free financing for up to one year.

What is tooth decay?
Tooth decay is the destruction of tooth structure. Decay occurs when plaque, the sticky substance that forms on teeth, combines with the sugars or starches of the foods that we eat. This combination produces acids that attack tooth enamel. The best way to prevent tooth decay is by brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and receiving regular cleanings from your dentist.

How do you detect cavities?
At Middletown Family Dental, we are committed to helping prevent as much damage to your teeth as possible, including cavities. That’s why we make use of a new technology called DIAGNOdent, a revolutionary and thorough means of detecting cavities that enables your exam to be faster and easier than ever. DIAGNOdent eliminates the poking and prodding usually associated with dental check-ups, because it uses a safe, simple laser scanner to inspect your teeth and uncover decay sooner and with more precision than traditional methods.

How can I safely get whiter teeth?
Whether your teeth are discolored from years of coffee-drinking or smoking, or you just want to update your look with a smile that sparkles, we can help you find the whitening solutions that work best for your specific needs. We provide in-house whitening treatments, porcelain veneers and can also provide you with a high-quality, customized bleaching system that you can safely use at home for everyday use.

What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain, which, when cosmetically bonded to your teeth, are very durable and extremely natural-looking. They are often used to replace teeth that are cracked, chipped or discolored. Please let us know if you are interested in learning more about getting quality porcelain veneers.

Is there a way to straighten my teeth without wearing braces?
Yes. We know that wearing traditional braces at any stage of life can be inconvenient, so that is why we offer patients the option of using the Invasalign system, a virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth without braces. It uses a series of discreet clear, removable aligners that are customized specifically to your mouth and slowly realign your teeth until they are straight.

How can I get the best mouthguard to protect my child’s teeth when he plays a sport?
It is important that you protect your child’s teeth in case of an accident during a contact sports play. That is why we offer custom-fit mouthguards, which can be created in as little as one week to provide your child with the utmost safety on the field. Custom mouthguards allow for your child to get a perfect fit for his or her teeth, consequently making them much more comfortable to wear.

When should I take my child to the dentist for the first time?
According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, children should visit a pediatric dentist when their first tooth comes in or no later than their first birthday. We are happy to see your child for his or her first dental visit and are ably equipped to answer any questions you might have.

What are dental sealants?
Dental sealants are a great way to protect your teeth from cavities. Essentially, they are a clear and protective coating that is applied to the biting surfaces of the back teeth. The sealant protects the tooth from getting a cavity by shielding against bacteria and plaque. Sealants are most commonly used on children’s teeth, but are also suitable for adults. We provide sealants for patients of all ages!

Which toothbrush should I choose: manual or electric?
According to the Academy of General Dentistry, the best toothbrush that you can buy is the one that you will actually use. The American Dental Association recommends brushing your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes, so the most important element of choosing a toothbrush, whether electric or manual, is selecting one you will actually use on a daily and consistent basis.
